My First Month

I am quite late to send this greeting. My last two weeks have been with the "valleys and the peaks."
I call the valleys - my day of discouragement, and my peaks - the times when I'm right on track.
This tough climb of "gathering in all the information on how to help patrons find their ancestors," is a big challenge. There is so much to learn, and all of us missionaries feel we just cannot learn it all. So when you are asked a question, "Can you help me?" The response on my part, 2/3 of the time, I 'll see if this other missionary can help - I"m just learning this feature. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. The more I'm in the library, the more I am putting it all together.

The first month was "intense" training (1st in the Training Facility where you search your own family history and learn the tools, links and resources available), and the 2nd is in the zone where you've been placed (US/CANADA) and learning all the locations of the ten plus resources of books, films, fiches, and web sites -numerous.
Now, I must be in the "she'll make-it" stage because I've been asked to assist with a training class (end of April). I love this Mission! The wonderful other missionaries, the atmosphere of love and support for all, and the environment of SLC. I pinch myself every day that I am actually here....
This last weekend of conference was very wonderful.
I am finding new discoveries every day. I am hoping I will gain more guidelines on ways to help the patrons that come to the Family History Library.
